Dragonflight Profession System

With Dragonflight, professions are once again getting a lot of attention from the developers. Numerous new features await you, which have never been seen before in World of Warcraft:

  • Materials and crafted items with quality
  • Working Orders
  • Profession Equipment
  • Specialisations (e.g. Weapon- and Armorsmith)
  • Recrafting (Craft manufactured armor again)
  • Crafting Stations (in Dragonflights capital Valdrakken)

Quality

New to World of Warcraft for the first time is the fact that there are now different quality levels of almost every Dragonflight material and item.

  • Materials (ores, herbs, leather, cloth, etc.) are available from Tier 1-3.
  • Crafted items (weapons, armor, tools, etc.) are from Tier 1 to Tier 5.
  • The tier level you get when mining ores, for example, depends on your specialization and skill.
  • If you use better quality materials in the production process, you will increase the quality of the crafted item.
  • Higher quality means:
    • Increased item level of items
    • Effects of potions are strengthened and/or increased

In the following example, I swapped Tier 1 Drakoniumerz for Tier 3, and as you can see, the chance of me making Tier 2 Plattenamschienen des Forschers increases.

But you can also combine the quality levels of each material.

The quality of the crafted items also determines, among other things, which bonuses are active, as well as which item level the item has. For example, the Plattenamschienen des Forscher have an iLvL of 306 on Tier 1 and then iLvL 316 on Tier 5.

As mentioned before, the quality affects not only the iLvL, but also the effects of the items. For example, higher quality potions have a longer duration or a stronger effect.

As you can see in the picture, you get up to 541 agility from the Tier 1 Phial and up to 623 agility from the Tier 2 Phial .

Refinement

With the three gathering professions Herbalism, Mining and Skinning you are able to refine your materials. For example, with the Mining profession you can turn five Tier 1 Severiterz into a Tier 2 Severiterz . In Herbalism, this skill is called Refine Herbs.

You can get these skills through certain specializations, which you can skill through your Profession Journal. For skilling you need Knowledge Points which you get through farming and quests.

Herbalism: Refine Herbs

  • Bountiful Harvests Specialization
    • Refine Herbs Tier 2: 20 Dragon Isle Herbalism Knowledge
    • Refine Herbs Tier 3: 40 Dragon Isle Herbalism Knowledge

Mining: Refine Ores

  • Metallurgy Specialization
    • Refine Serevite Tier 2: 1 Dragon Isle Mining Knowledge
    • Refine Draconium Tier 2: 10 Dragon Isle Mining Knowledge
    • Refine Khaz’gorite Tier 2: 20 Dragon Isle Mining Knowledge
    • Refine Khaz’gorite Tier 3: 40 Dragon Isle Mining Knowledge
  • Serevite Specialization
    • Refine Serevite Tier 3: 20 Dragon Isle Mining Knowledge
  • Draconium Specialization
    • Refine Draconium Tier 3: 20 Dragon Isle Mining Knowledge

Skinning: Refinement

  • Tanning Specialization
    • Refine Hides Tier 2: 20 Dragon Isle Skinning Knowledge
    • Refine Hides Tier 3: 40 Dragon Isle Skinning Knowledge
  • Leather Mastery Specialization
    • Refine Leather Tier 2: 1 Dragon Isle Skinning Knowledge
    • Refine Leather Tier 3: 20 Dragon Isle Skinning Knowledge
  • Scale Mastery Specialization
    • Refine Scales Tier 2: 1 Dragon Isle Skinning Knowledge
    • Refine Scales Tier 3: 20 Dragon Isle Skinning Knowledge

Specializations

After a long time, Dragonflight brings specializations back into the game – for almost every profession (except for cooking and fishing). You can unlock these specializations from skill level 25. For these skill trees you need knowledge points, which you can get in different ways.

Through these specializations you’ll improve your profession and learn numerous new recipes.

Especially at the beginning of Dragonflight, you’ll have to choose a talent tree, since you’ll only have a few knowledge points available. Over the course of the next weeks and months, you will gain more knowledge points, so that you can decide on further specializations for the same character. Note, however, that specializations cannot be reset!

Due to the limited number of possible knowledge points, it makes sense to practice the same profession with several characters. For example, you can specialize in weaponsmithing with character 1 and armorcrafting with character 2.

Knowledge Points

For almost every profession you need knowledge points. This would be, for example, in the case of Herbalism, Kräuterkundewissen der Dracheninseln, and in Blacksmithing, Schmiedekunstwissen der Dracheninseln.

Since the sources of knowledge points are a big topic in itself, you can find all the information about it on a separate page:

Profession Equipment

Until now, we only knew tools like the Gnomische Armeemesser or Fishing Rods with +5 fishing skill or similar. In Dragonflight, profession equipment is raised to a new level. So now each profession has three slots (cooking has 2) which are occupied with equipment. One slot is used for a tool (such as Drakoniumspitzhacke, Drakoniumsichel, Federgetriebene Khaz’goritstoffschere) and two for accessories such as a Kochmütze, Endloses Steinkrustenerzsäckchen, Wildstoffalchemistenrobe and the like.

Profession Tool Slot (Blacksmith)

On this equipment there are attributes that make your profession more efficient:

  • Tools and Accessories – Crafting
    • Skill, Inspiration, Resourcefulness, Crafting Speed
  • Tools and Accessories – Gathering
    • Skill, Finesse, Deftness, Perception

You can find more information about professional equipment in the respective profession guide.

Crafting Stations

In the capital Valdrakken, as in other cities, there is a separate profession district (The Artisan’s Market). There are beautiful areas for each individual profession. Since Blizzard wants to breathe more life into this district, some items can only be made at the workbenches in Valdrakken. The alchemist, for example, also has a mobile workbench so that he can brew the right thing on the spot for everyone in raids.

Don’t panic even if you don’t have a Mächtigen Karawanen Brutosaurus for the Auction House. There is an Auction House near the Artisan’s Market in the new capital!

Crafting Details

You will have noticed that with Dragonflight there are a lot of variables that can significantly affect the outcome of your crafting and gathering. I would like to give you an exact insight here, which stat is responsible for which area.

Basically, Crafting Details are for Crafting Professions and Gathering Details for Gathering Professions.

Crafting Details (Gathering Professions)

  • Recipe Difficulty
  • Skill
  • Inspiration
  • Resourcefulness
  • Crafting Speed
  • Multicraft

Gathering Details

  • Primary Reagent Difficulty
  • Skill
  • Finesse
  • Deftness
  • Perception
Crafting Details: Recipe Difficulty and Skill

Recipe Difficulty: Determines how much skill is required to make this recipe with the highest quality.

Skill: Increases the quality with which this recipe is made.

These two values are in direct comparison, because in the best case your skill is always higher than the recipe difficulty. Recipe difficulty determines how much skill is required to craft a recipe at the highest quality.

For example, adding Optional Reagents like Trainingsmatrix der Titanen raises the iLvL of Plattenstiefeln des Forschers from 335 to 372-382. This increases the recipe difficulty from 100 to 190 as in this example.

As you can see from this picture, the skill is 256, which is above the difficulty of 190. Should you craft this item now, you are guaranteed to get Plattenstiefel des Forschers with iLvL 382, as you are above the recipe difficulty.

Every crafting is a gamble in a way, because if you have a high inspiration, you have a better chance that even though your skill is below the recipe difficulty, you will still craft a higher quality item.

Any added Optional Reagent (whether iLvL, secondary values, or even attributes such as Multicraft) will increase the recipe difficulty.

Your skill is increased by:

Crafting Detail: Inspiration

You have a X % chance to be inspired, crafting this recipe with X bonus Skill.

Inspiration is the luck factor for quality. The higher your inspiration, the greater the chance that you will get a better quality level when you craft it. Here is an example to illustrate:

Drakoniumnadelsatz

  • Recipe Difficulty: 80
  • Skill: 37
  • Inspiration: 5% (Bonus Skill + 13 Skill)

With the current skill, we are making a Drakoniumnadelsatz with Tier 2 quality in this example. Each item has different thresholds from T1-T5 quality. I would get a guaranteed Drakoniumnadelsatz with T5 quality with a skill of 80+.

Now comes the inspiration. With a 5% chance, you get +13 skill on top of it when you craft it. So if you are lucky, the bonus will activate in crafting and you will have +13 skill. Depending on how much skill is missing to the next quality level, the +13 skill may or may not be enough. Unfortunately, the bar only shows you how much skill you are missing at this quality level.

Inspiration is increased by:

Crafting Detail Resourcefulness

The cheaper you can build an item, the more profit you’ll have in the end. With high Resourcefulness, there is a chance that less materials will be needed when crafting n than indicated.

Resourcefulness is increased by:

Crafting Detail: Crafting Speed

Crafting Speed: Increases your crafting speed

Of course, it’s handy to have certain items you build on mass ready faster, but you should definitely put your valuable slots and knowledge points at the beginning with other stats.

Crafting Speed is increased by:

Crafting Detail: Multicraft

You have a X % chance to craft additional items

This stat is only found on items that are stackable such as alloys, phials, etc.

Multicraft is increased by:

Gathering Details

Gathering Detail: Primary Reagent Difficulty

Determines how much Skill is required to start gathering the primary reagent found here at the highest quality.

If you increase your skill value (e.g. through tools, specializations, skill level, enchantment, flask) you will get more and more raw materials of the highest quality (Tier 3).

Gathering Detail: Skill

Your skill increases the quality of the items you gather.

Skill is increased by:

Gathering Detail: Finesse

You have a X % chance to gather more of the primary reagent found.

Finesse is increased by:

Gathering Detail: Deftness

Increases your gathering speed.

Deftness is increased by:

Gathering Detail: Perception

Increases your ability to spot rare reagents while gathering.

Perception is increased by:

Optional Reagents and Finishing Reagents

Optional Reagents

By adding Optional Reagents, you can increase the item level, adjust the secondary stats, or add special attributes. However, each reagent increases the recipe difficulty of your item. This may result in you getting poorer quality.

You have to unlock the reagent slots for some items via specializations.

They are made through professions, but also through rewards. For example, you’ll get a Trainingsmatrix der Titanen II at the end of a Dragonflight instance of normal difficulty.

Optional Reagents for Armor and Weapons
Optional Reagents for Tools

Finishing Reagents

By adding crafting reagents you can increase the skill, chance to get more skill points, inspiration, crafting speed, etc.
The slots for the reagents must be unlocked for some items via specializations. These are crafted via professions.

Recrafting

One of the new features for Dragonflight is Recrafting. With the help of „Recraft Equipment“, you can improve crafted items again with optional reagents and better crafting reagents. This allows you to increase the quality or attributes of the item, for example.

Through the Crafting Order System it is possible to improve other players armor, weapons and tools that way.
This feature is possible via the new crafting order system. Recraft Equipment is only possible via personal or guild crafting orders.
